Private Subcontractor vs Public Contractor Accounts in HeyPros

Written by Alex Johnson

Understanding the difference

There are two ways to work in HeyPros — as a Private Subcontractor or as a Public Contractor with a paid subscription. Both let you use the HeyPros platform to communicate, win more jobs, and stay organized, but they give you access to different kinds of work.

Private Subcontractors

If you were invited to HeyPros by a company or GC you already work with, you’re a Private Subcontractor.

Private subs can:

  • Receive and complete jobs only from the company that invited them.

  • View work orders, messages, and documents from that one GC.

  • Log in and manage work through text links or the HeyPros app.

Private accounts are limited to one company, and you’ll only see the jobs they assign to you.

Public Contractors (Paid Subscription)

Public Contractors are independent HeyPros subscribers who can claim homeowner leads, and see and bid on open work from any company using HeyPros.

With a paid subscription, you can:

  • Claim homeowner leads

  • View Public Work Orders from multiple GCs hiring in your area.

  • Bid on jobs that match your trades and locations.

  • Work with several companies at once instead of just one.

Your public account gives you more control — you decide who to work with and what jobs to pursue.

Can I have both?

Yes. Many contractors keep their Private Subcontractor Account to continue working with their current GC and create a separate Public Contractor Account to find new work.

When you sign up for a paid subscription, your second (public) account will show:

  • Homeowner leads

  • Available public jobs on the HeyPros Marketplace.

  • New companies hiring in your trade and region.

You’ll still have full access to your private subcontractor. account for your existing company — the two accounts are completely separate.

In short:
If you only work with one company, your private account is all you need.
If you want to find more work and connect with homeowners and new GC's, a public subscription opens the door to the entire HeyPros Marketplace.
