Why might a homeowner not answer?
A homeowner not answering does not automatically mean the lead was bad.
Some homeowners:
are at work when you call
don't answer calls from numbers they don't know
prefer text over calls
are still comparing contractors
are not ready the same day they requested a quote
got busy and forgot to respond
No-response is a normal part of lead generation.
What should I do first?
If you claim a homeowner lead and do not get an answer right away, the best next step is to keep following up.
We recommend:
calling the homeowner
sending a text message
trying again later the same day or the next day
continuing follow-up instead of giving up after one attempt
How many times should I reach out?
We recommend reaching out 5 to 7 times before writing a lead off completely.
Many homeowners do not answer on the first attempt.
Should I leave a voicemail?
Yes, if the call goes to voicemail and the box is set up.
Keep it short and clear. For example:
“Hi, this is [Your Name] with [Company Name]. I’m reaching out about the deck project request you submitted through HeyPros. Feel free to call or text me back at [Your Number].”
Should I text the homeowner too?
Yes.
Some homeowners are much more likely to respond to a text than a phone call.
A simple first text is usually best. For example:
“Hi, this is [Your Name] with [Company Name]. I’m reaching out about the deck project request you submitted through HeyPros. Let me know if you’d like to discuss your project.”
What happens when the homeowner still doesn’t respond?
Don’t give up after one call. Call, text, leave a voicemail, and follow up over several days.
If the homeowner still cannot be reached, open the claimed lead in HeyPros and select Report an Issue. Choose the no-response option, answer the questions about your contact attempts, and submit the request.
You must have an active paid subscription to submit a request and receive a returned lead credit. See How to Submit a Lead Credit Refund Request for the complete steps and review the HeyPros Lead Guarantee for eligibility.
When should I stop trying?
If you have reached out multiple times over a the course of 3-5 days and still have no response, you may decide to move on and focus on other leads.
Not every lead will turn into a conversation or a job.
Final note
Homeowner leads are opportunities, not guaranteed outcomes.
The contractors who usually get the best value are the ones who:
reach out quickly
follow up more than once
stay active
stay realistic about the fact that some homeowners will not respond
